Day 3: Today was the world-famous Pingxi Lantern Festival. It wasn’t until nightfall, but getting there involved leaving our place by 10am, taking the subway to a shuttle, and going on an hour-long ride along mountain roads to Pingxi. We arrived after noon. We took our place on the bridge with our lantern and a couple thousand other people, wrote our wishes for the coming year, and when it got dark, attendants made their way through the crowd lighting the lanterns. And at the right moment away they went, 1000 lanterns into the night sky.
